(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I had a pet chicken about 15 years ago when my son was young and she was the BEST pet ever. So basically I wanted a bunch of yard pet chickens...that lay eggs
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
8 supposed Pullets. They are about 1 week old now and running around my bathroom testing their wings whilst I'm on the computer.
(3) What breeds do you have?
2 of each:
Buff Orpintons
Plymouth Barred Rock
Americaunas
Golden Lace Wyondottes
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
While searching for the breed profiles so that I could decide what kind of chickens I wanted. I LOVE forums, it's the best place to research and learn real life situations.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I'm a licensed veterinary technician and a webmaster and a motorcycle rider.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm 38 years old. Been married for almost 20 years and have a 19 year old son.
We had our pet chicken when Kaleb was around 4 years old and she would always just sit down when he came up to pet her and then when he was done, she went on her merry way.
Chickens make great pets and now I'm ready to have more chicken pets again.
I had to put our pet chicken to sleep because of a wound that would not heal. It was the hardest euthanasia I've ever had to do (And unfortunately I've done TONS of euthanasias).
We also had a pet turkey shortly after that and he turned out to be the best guard dog
Have had a plethora of various animals over the years...several snakes...rats, mice and gerbils (pets and food)...rabbits...cats...English Mastiff, Dogue de Bordearx and NOW a rescue white boxer...turkey...pygmy goat...sheep...hedgehogs. I think that's all...
