In the Brooder
Hello! I’m new to this site, and I just started keeping chickens in February of 2018. I’m still learning a lot, so hopefully I can learn even more with you guys.
I currently have 8 chickens: 4 silkies named Imposter, Renier, Poofball (pictured below), and Cuckoo Chanel (2 of which are Roos that may need to find a home where their crowing won’t disturb neighbors)
I also have one Black Jersey Giant, sex unknown, named Crybaby, and I have 3 mystery chickens. 1 mystery chicken is a bantam that weighs 360g at 6 months old. She is our smallest (and favorite) chicken named Peckerhead (last pic). The other two mystery chickens were purchased from a feed store a few weeks ago... kinda regretting because they were sick and got the rest of my babies sick.
I found out about this site while I was searching the internet for answers to all kinds of chicken questions. This site kept popping up when I searched about chicken coops, diet, medications, illnesses, behavior, and everything else chicken related. Lol so I figured I should probably join since it seems like you guys have all the answers!
I’m a Zoology major living in Texas, and I also participate in the University Orchestra during spring & fall semesters. My boyfriend of 5 years and I share our home with chickens (of course), 3 dogs, 2 cats, a Giant African Bullfrog, 2 spiny lizards, 1 bearded dragon, and a desert grassland whip tail. This summer while I’m not in school, I’ve been volunteering for the local feral cat coalition along with Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation to take up all the new free time I have.
I’m excited to meet and talk with everyone! I know I’m going to learn so much more about chickens from y’all!
