Hiyas from Oregon!

You have some really nice breeds and hybrids. Red Stars (Red Sex Links) are egg laying machines. I've raised them for years, and they have been my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 eggs per hen per year. You should get loads of large, brown eggs from those 2 girls. :o)

Thank you! I hope a good majority survive shipping when they do head our way. I did a lot of reading about the different breeds and I'm really crossing my fingers on them. I really would have loved just an all Barred Rock flock for my own aesthetic liking but the kids chimed in and it felt only right to let them have a say as long as they stuck to egg producers. The only frivolous one was the Bantam.

Welcome to BYC!

I'm glad you joined us.

You'll really enjoy raising chickens! You've picked out some nice breeds, too. The Red Stars, Rhode Island Reds, and Plymouth Rocks should provide you with plenty of eggs, and the Silkies should make great pets.

You're welcome. I'm glad you let the kids chime in and get some of what they wanted. I have Easter Eggers in my flock for the same reason. They are my granddaughter's (pictured in my avatar) chickens. She loves their colored eggs. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. :o)
