Hmmm....Hen not "acting right"

How is your hen now??

I just got home and my rIr is acting really strange- very quiet fluffed up just standing around staring- not like her at all!! She was perfectly normal this morning. I was wondering if you found something that worked- I think I'm out of omega capsules but may have an old save a chick pack so I guess ill try that. I'm really worried!!

Thank you all so much for your support and suggestions. I did put some Braggs Apple Cider with "The Mother" in the water. I put a small troth of food in the nesting area so she could eat without being "bothered". I made her her "own nest" and set her in it and she seemed very content.

Last night at dusk I heard the most awful scream and screech and thought an owl swooped in, but Dolly was "caught" by one of my Rock roos and it actually scared me, because it seemed kinda violent and she was surrounded by other hens. But today, she seems like she snapped out of whatever was going on. She's back with the flock, at least this morning she is. Her comb is looking better and her tail has perked back up.

I will definitely try the fish oil just as a precaution. The thought did cross my mind that she had gotten a hold of a flower, plant or insect that did settle right. For now I'm still keeping a close watch on her. I will keep y'all posted. I cannot express my thanks enough. I've been really worried about her. I'm a critter freak to begin with, but I never thought I would end up loving chickens so much! LOL.

@ mickeymouseears: I so hope your hen gets better. I am so thankful for this forum and having the opportunity to learn from those who are experienced in this. I read just about everything I could before I affirmatively decided to start raising chickens, but it's a whole new ballgame now that I have them. Still so much to learn!!!

Many Blessings to all!!!

Thank you for the update!! I'm so glad she is doing better! Everytime I have a sick animal I think"this is why ppl without animals are less stressed cause they don't sit up all night worried about a chicken!!! Idk what I would do on any given day if I didn't have Byc forum!! I am so thankful for the experience that ppl are willing to share with inexperienced city "farmers" like myself!! And Eventhough I KNOW my questions are dumb- no one has ever made a rude remark. They are always answered kindly and graciously!! I love you BYC!!

I gave mine an omega 3 capsule mixed with a bit of save a chick packet and she seemed to snap out of it. This morning she shot out of the coop like she was on fire hurdled the small fence and went straight in the house to her favorite nesting spot (the livingroom) she didn't lay an egg but my husband found a semi soft one on the ladder of the coop. And as soon as my husband started his breakfast she was right there underfoot- her normal nagging self. So idk what the issue was but she didn't look good at all.

Funny side note: my husband didn't want to share his breakfast so he tore up a piece of bread and put it on the floor for the chicken nags. This little red hen- the one that was knocking on deaths door last night - is smart enough to realize he's got the good stuff so she spits out her bread and jumps in my husbands lap to eat his food LOL. He of course pushed her off and gave her a bit of his food which she quickly gobbled then proceeded to beg for more in the same fashion. Lmao! Who said chickens were unintelligent????
