I have 8 (5 week old) chickens and I just picked up 3 (what was advertised as 3 week old) chickens although I think they are younger, maybe 2 weeks. Of the 8 original, I have 4 RIR's and 4 Buff Orps. One of the new EE's is quite bold. I started introducing the new chicks (EE's) to the original 8. I monitor them of course, just in case. This one EE chases the other (5 week olds) chickens although they are significantly larger than her/him. She/he also likes to stand up straight and throw his/her chest at the other chickens, almost in a duel. What is up with this? Please tell me I don't have a roo and that I just have a rambunctious little lady!!! I will die if at 4 or 5 weeks I hear a lilttle cock-a-doodle-do!

My 4 light brahma hens did the chest bumping thing and would even fly at each other with their feet out. I was hoping for one to be a roo, but no luck, they are all hens.

Hi, lunkerchicken.

Post pics... I'm sure we'd know instantly then if it is a roo or not.

But I have EIGHT hens and for the longest time, I was never sure if a couple of them were roosters or not! Their combs were a little bigger than the others, not by much but there was a difference. They were also physically a little bigger than the others... but alas, they're hens. Nobody's crowing yet, at least.

And they all do some mock fights with each other, as well. The biggest girl, she'll, for no reason at all, run straight at one of her sisters, puff up her neck and chest, and do this head rollin' thing... don't know how to accurately describe it other than my DH's somewhat retarded description: "NUH-UH, NO YOU DI-INT!"

And then, the other chicken will just walk away or whatever and she'll just go about her business as if she didn't just do that.

Any thoughts? Too early to tell? This little tyke is a real fire cracker, chasing others, big or small, all around the run!
Thanks for your input so far, I look forward to getting some answers!!!

Very lovely chick!! I am going to say roo, though it could very easily be a pullet. I think you will know better in a couple more weeks. My roo that looked like your chick(part of the reason I a saying roo) didn't start getting pink on the comb until around 5 weeks of age. And didn't start trying to crow(funny strangle noise actually) until closer to 8 weeks. Either way, very nice looking baby!
