We eat a lot of eggs at our house. After learning about the chemicals they give those poor hens laying eggs commercially and the conditions in which they live, and after eating fresh organic eggs from my neighbors, I was convinced that raising my own was the best way to go. And we would save money instead of buying organic eggs from the store. So I ran out and bought 3 Rhode Island Reds and 3 Silver Laced Wyandottes in a box. I realized quickly that I didn’t know a damn thing about raising chickens. Thank God for Goggle and this site. So while my little chicks lived in our dining area I studied. I've had them now for 13 weeks and I have since started a blog, Homegirl Ventures about my experience learning with my girls and raising them in the desert heat. It's been a challenge and your site has been my go to on how to raise them. Thanks.

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Yes, it can be a challenge to keep chickens in high heat, especially your state! I am in New Mexico up in the mountains. Not as bad as what you see, but the UV at 7,000 feet and intensity of the sun can be brutal! Water sure is our best friend, isn't it! :D

Great to have you aboard and welcome to our roost! :)
