Holding chickens.

Once they come of the age of 6-8 weeks, they are pretty durable. You don’t need to worry about hurting them, as long as you don’t hold their necks, or hold them by their feet. Otherwise I would visit the link above.

One of the most important things is to hold their wings against their bodies to they can't use spread then and keep their feet secure. Most will calm and submit quickly and you start to build some trust.
Some birds you can balance with their bellies on the palm of your hand, legs dangling, and wings unfettered....but most won't tolerate that and will try to escape.

Review those videos that were linked.... and practice, it takes time to get the hang of it.

There are several safe and secure ways I have seen. There are plenty of YouTube videos that demonstrate different methods https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+hold+a+chicken

I will note that the hold shown on the first video that comes up on that query (How to Properly Hold a Chicken), I can't pull off. My hands are way too small to be able to reach thumb and side fingers around on opposite thighs at the same time!

I either do a foot ball type hold (both hands on opposite side, holding down wings while fingers reach under the belly) or a modified version of the hold I mentioned above, except I put all my fingers under the belly and only the thumb around one thigh, with my other hand resting on top of the wings to stop any flapping.

Is holding a chicken between my body and my hand a good way to hold it? It keeps the wings pined to its body.
