this morning checked the coop to find a grape fruit sized hole in my chick wire. feathers were scattered around and 2 of my hens had tail feathers ripped out to bare butt. no kia's which is good. what rascal would chew thru chicken wire? i've had issues in the past with racoons and had my run pretty secure. i guess the only way in is to chew thru chicken wire. looks like tonight i'm locking the hens up and setting trap.

Just about anything can chew through chicken wire...it's really only good for keeping chickens IN, not predators OUT. Raccoons, possums, foxes, rats...they would all just laugh at chicken wire. Many of them can also reach through the holes to grab chickens. Locking them in the coop after dark is an excellent idea and if you can, replace the chicken wire with hardware cloth or other welded wire. That will help deter most critters.

Sorry yer girls got attacked :(
