Hi I’m looking for advice for my 7 week old bantam silkie chick.
I posted before -
He was 2-3 days old and looked like he was having issues swallowing. It did improve until I noticed a few days ago some slimy goo under his chin. I thought he just got into something while having his supervised free roam time so I cleaned it and noticed a baby pea sized hard spot around the chin. I didn’t think anything of it until I thought maybe the crop could have a hole. I did some research and it is possible however all the pics I’ve seen look horrible compared to this. I’ve been spraying some colloidal silver on his neck but when I put him outside today it seemed like it was leaking a small amount of fluid.
I’ve thouroughly checked the area and can’t find anything besides the little hard lump.
This chick is the smallest however the growth has remained consistent compared to the others and there is no signs of lethargy, aggression or really anything abnormal besides the goo and fluid leaking.
About a week ago I heard someone crowing(pretty sure it was this chick) but have not heard it since. I’m not sure if maybe it was healing and the crowing re- opened it.
I’m wondering if I should but him in his own cage without food or water for 24 hours and clean the area good and maybe it will heal on its own?
Can anyone offer any advice?
Note: I live 3 hours away from any vet that will see birds so it’s sadly not an option
I couldn’t get the greatest pic but the top is where the hard bump is (underneath is just feathers clumped from the fluid). Other pic is just a size reference. He is on the bottom right

The crop is further down than that-closer to the breast bone. So I don’t think that is the issue. Is there some kind of deformity going on with his beak near the bump? It doesn’t look straight to me. Where is the fluid coming from exactly?

Your right! It does seem to be higher than the crop. I will try to examine him further. Maybe that bump is a deformity and he has a hole in the esophagus 🤷‍♀️. I’ll check the beak but I don’t remember anything being abnormal with it. He eats and drinks normally but something is leaking.

Keep us posted!

I got some pictures. It has grown in size. It looks like it could be a tumour. So now I’m not sure if there was a hole or if it could be the tumour that is leaking a fluid. It looks wet because I cleaned the area with some diluted hydrogen peroxide and then applied some castor oil on the neck and growth. I’m not sure how this will end up but he is not acting abnormal in any way and I find if one of the birds is sick the others know and can be more aggressive and none of the birds are treating him any different.

It’s hard to tell from the pictures—is there a chance it could be an ingrown feather?
I don’t think so. The mass looks like it’s coming out from his neck. I’m hoping the mass will shrink with the oil and maybe easier to tell. I’ve just it several times before with positive results. I guess it will depend on what it is. It’s worrisome because it seems so have grown in size fairly fast but he is showing zero signs of being sick or it bothering him.

I just checked him and the mass has gone down. I know forsure there is a lump on his neck but maybe food got mixed with feathers making the mass appear larger and the application of the oil worked the ball apart?

I think you may be correct, it may have been a dried mass of food and whatever else got in there and hardened. I would keep doing what you have been, see if you can get it all off eventually. The the question is what is causing it to happen. It might be helpful to trim feathers back around the area so you can see better.
