Hi all I went away overnight for the first time since I got my ducks and hens! My friends were really nice to put them to bed etc but I think it's best to hire someone specifically to look after them (took me over an hour to sort them out after a 4hr drive!) Such a welcome and a telling off I got!! There were tears in my eyes lol I always thought they were kinda oblivious to my presence unless I had food! But they do bond strongly with you! Especially my boy LJ! Even the rabbit came running up to me and she's usually 'huffy' lol!! I've just watched a peta video about bull fighting, where one bull was close to death and spotted its owner who had reared it from a valve. He went over to him for help and the 'owner' just kissed it's nose and let it be killed....really sickened me, how could anybody do that :(

I understand what you're talking about. I could never ever do that.

You do miss them when you go away, and worry about them too. When the hubby and I go away in October, my kids take care of them for us. But, I will tell you this, I do worry about all of our critters, as I'm the one who cares for them all, and have it "down to a science" about taking care of them. In the end, they are alright, its just us being motherly.

How true! I don't think I'll ever be entirely happy unless it's me doing the caring lol But we do need a break and to spend time with family/friends! As you say they do survive! :) can't believe I'm so bonded with ducks and hens!!

You also have to realize that even though someone else won't be able to duplicate all the things you do for them, they are probably very capable of providing good basic care.

I have a hard time delegating responsibility because I want everything done a certain way. I've learned to ease up a bit on expectations.
