HOLIDAY HATCH PARTY... chicks anyone... the party continues....

aaawwww welcome back to the party....

so, i was looking at my chicks today... they are 3 weeks tomorrow for mine... i'm noticing comb growt on 4 out of 6... and i was also noticing the other day that they have THICK legs.. don't know if the thick legs and the combs are on the same chicken or not.. lol.. i need to get pics of them so i can post to the breed forum too...

My pre-Halloweenies are starting to grow up. I had to take the Japanese bantams they were rooming with out to the baby bantam pen today because the much younger standards I hatched were getting bigger than them.

As they are growing up, the white one looks like a white cochin with some black wing markings. The black one is becoming a frizzle. The four Orpington X chicks are loosing the patterning on their feathers and looking very orangey. I left the bantams of the same age in with the babies because I was afraid they might be crushed. The one that was the size of a quail chick is still fairly tiny.

You don't? Ah, ok. I'm doing it right then.

Actually, I had a chance to sit back and look at what I hatched over the summer. Except for Gonzo and Kermit (there's no telling what they are yet) I seem to have hatched either pairs or trios. It's my bantam girls who favor the boy eggs! Tell them to stop hatching so many roosters, somebody, please!

Noooooo! However, the ones I was getting girlie vibes from before yesterday just seem to be growing their little points, while the whole combs on the ones I was getting boy vibes from are getting thicker and taller, so we'll see. As for our little favorite, he *sigh* seems to really be a he. Maple didn't quite fit 'im, nor anything else I tried out, so the search continues. Currently I'm trying out Atticus on him. LOL

I don't even know what to call the color - it seems to change by the day.

One of the little blondie twins seems to be growing in definite grey feathers among the white - at first I thought she was just dirty, but if you look under her wing the shafts are definitely rosy grey. I'm wondering if she's going to turn out lavender - I don't know if I've ever seen a lavender Serama. The other blondie is sprouting orange & white, black & white, and grey feathers.

They've gone outside twice, first for ten minutes and today for about twenty - first they were scared but then started jumping around trying out flying and scratching in the dirt. SOOOOO cute!!! I need to make a secure playpen for them while the weather is still nice.

And here is Little Murphy...

oohh atticus is a cool name for him.. i was thinking coffee.. but atticus is cool...

his color is still very cool... you'll have to post picks of the little silvery one...

Here's mah girl... she has a very feminine air, and is the absolute sweetheart of the bunch. She was very shy at first, but now she's the first to run to me when I open the brooder, and even if she just catches sight of me she'll run back and forth peeping until I take her out and give her a cuddle. Such a love....

She looks grumpy 'cause I woke her up taking the picture. LOL The pic is from yesterday, I believe.

maya,
I so enjoy your photos. What do you use? Is it just a natural talent you possess, like your doctoring skills? LOL

I'm not even gonna put my poor pitiful pictures on here! Hey, what about that calendar contest we talked about? Did any of you PM Nifty to give him a nudge, for a contest? Not that I could ever enter, but I would sure enjoy watching!

Hey, Kathy, didn't mean to ignore ya ... it's so easy to overlook threads on this busy board.

Awww... thanks for the compliments on my piccies. I've a nice camera I got on clearance (could not have afforded it otherwise, LOL), so any praise for my pic taking ability probably should go to the camera. Although, I've been an artist for my entire life, so hopefully I've got some idea of good composition by now. As for my doctoring skills... meh. My first 'patients' didn't do so well, so I just kept reading and researching in hopes of never causing another life to suffer or end because of my skills, or lack thereof...

Hey! Your pics are not pitiful! I really enjoy them and would like to see more...!!! And, no, I haven't PM'd Nifty.
