I'm having the same dilemma, myself.
We may be going out of town for basically 2 nights, 3 days. My 3 ladies have a big run attached to their house, so I'm not concerned about space. I'm most concerned about cleanliness, because every morning I have to go out and scoop an enormous amount of droppings from the night before. I don't know how 3 chickens create such a mess! The thought of leaving them to walk around in that for 3 days grosses me out. I'd have to bathe them when I got home! Plus they kick sand into their waterer, and I have to clean it out at least once a day (should do it twice a day!) I'm considering staying home from the trip to avoid the trouble of finding someone to check in on them, which seems a little silly, but.....what else can you do? If it was just food and water it wouldn't be so bad. I just hate to ask someone to scoop stinky droppings every morning.
