Holy Cow. How did our ancestors do it? (Mixing own feed)

I mix feed for my chickens, but nothing fancy and not really measured. 50 lb flock raiser or layena, 8 lb bag of BOSS, 10 lbs whole corn, 20 lbs scratch feed. Plus they free range. They seem quite content and healthy.

Some chickens have changed very much in the last several decades but more so for birds that are from hatcheries.
Hatcheries breed for one thing quantity not for quality, or the ability to survive on a minimal amount of mans help.

Most of birds that most of are ancestors had that were left to fend for there self or with a little help by man were very "gamey" type fowl and our ancestors lived by a rule that the strong will survive, so over time they had very strong fowl that could survive most anything.
