Dallas, TX (Lake Highlands)
Hi, my name is Elise. My husband, two children, and I live in an East Dallas, TX neighborhood called Lake Highlands. This is located inside "the loop" and it doesn't really get more urban unless you actually live in downtown Dallas. We have a large backyard for a city house, and last week, we got 4 chicks: 1 Silver Wyandotte, 1 Black Cochin, 1 Bantam Buff Orpington (all are now 2 wks old), and 1 Buff Orpington (now 3 wks old). Then, yesterday, because I couldn't help myself, I got two Lavender Ameracaunas, which were 3 days old. All were purchased from Gecko Hardware here in Lake Highlands. I have to say, I love my new chicks so much! I can't believe I waited this long to have backyard chickens! Love this site, such good info.

Hi, Elise!

We are in Lochwood - very near Old Lake Highlands. We have 3 chickens (we were hoping for 5, but there's a long story behind that, and plenty of time to get a couple more to make up the difference!).
A lot of our neighbors have chickens here, and it's a pretty supportive neighborhood.
Glad to see you on board - would love to have a new chicken owner meetup in East Dallas in the very near future!

Holy cow, we bought 6 chicks too! Gecko Hardware knows how to sell chicks. We are in Merriman Park, just up Northwest Hwy. Have you put yours out in your coop yet? Have you had any problem with racoons or neighbors? We have 3 americaunas, 2 rhode island reds and a golden wyandote.
