HOLY CRAP is this normal?

just wait for a reply from one of the chicken whisperers that roam this site, they always show up....they're just like Oracles

I read in the backyard poultry magazine that they theorize that feather picking is due to a lack of salt. Therefore they pick for the salty tasting blood, YUCK! But it said to add salt to their water for 2 days then fresh water for 3 days then start again for another round. You may want to see if that works.

My hens go nuts when ever an egg gets busted open, they love to devour them. But, I do not know why yours are pecking till blood comes. How old are they?

they are just about a year old...

featherfoot.... how much salt are you supposed to add??? ihave a 2 gallon water bucket

One tablespoon per gallon of water. But I was wrong about two days. It says to do it one day and repeat again in three days. Then as needed.

Can you give chickens a small salt/mineral block...like they give parrots?

Treats should not amount to more than 10-15% of their total food intake each day.

Interesting about the backyard poultry magazine article on salt. Be careful with that....their bodies are too small to handle a lot of salt at one time. If trying that, I would follow the instructions in the article very carefully.

You feed your chickens Greek Yogurt???
That's expensive!!!!!!!!
Lucky girls.........

I make my own. One quart of home-made yogurt turns into about1 cup of the Greek stuff after the liquid is strained off.
