I feel like I’m on some hazing show how can this crazy stuff keep happening to me and my little flock?!
So the newest situation is I had a leghorn - Angel-yesterday acting way off. She’d gotten into a lower nesting box - so not the preferred box so that was odd. Then when I checked back several minutes later Angel was hanging her head. When I picked her up I could feel a very hard crop ball. I took her to the patio and placed her in the wire cage. I finished the chores and by then DH was awake. He’s the best crop massager around! He was able to break it up.
We fed her mineral oil and water (Corid as we are treating the flock with it right now). We left her be for awhile. Came back to check on her and she had pooped a lot. A lot. All good. Kept up with the crop massage, oil and water. It improved rapidly. Later after more oil and water I forced some egg into her as she didn’t eat any offered food. More poop. We kept her on the cage all night. Today she was acting a little bit better and her crop had a small ball. More massage, oil and water.
I returned her to the flock. All day she was definitely off but much better than she had been. She ate some crumbles on her own and walked around a bit.
Tonight after I treated another hen I watched Angel. She was acting slow but at least she was out and about. I saw her poop a tiny little poop. I figured it was due to her not eating very much today. So I decided to cage her again and offer her crumbles mixed with buttermilk and mineral oil. She ate a small but decent amount. Next thing I know is she drops the following poop! I can’t believe my eyes!
That’s a baby food jar lid for size comparison. I quickly move Angle in the cage to the floor. I’m thinking it’s a tape worm or intestines. There’s no blood, no pink, just white. It’s shiny moist and gelatinous. Nothing moves. I take pictures.
Has anyone ever seen something like this??
My next post will be of it cut open.
