No WAY would I pay $100+ for hatching eggs...that are going to be shipped through the mail.

No the eggs look wonderful. If you look at the large picture you can see several imperfections in the "bloom". I think they are quite legit. I'm sure she has wonderful stock. If I ever found an egg that dark in my nest box no one would ever get to see it because I'd fall out in the coop from a heart attack...lol But is the picture of the adult birds showing Black Copper? The roo almost looks Wheaton to me. And the second and fourth hens back don't look Black Copper either. But maybe it's the way the afternoon sun is coming in and hitting them. I don't know.

And I am still in love with the idea of hatching someone's eggs they bought on auction and shipping the chicks. So neat.

I thought the roo looked wheaten, too. But the hens don't.

No the two hens don't look Wheaton. I don't know what color they are. The look kind of like my Crele Pendesenca girls. They just have so much pattern on their breast and the look so much lighter than black.

Yeah, well.....

Since there isn't an APA standard yet, and since egg color is so important in the breed, I guess it's no surprise to find a lot of feather color variation.

bayhorsebonne is where i got my eggs from. She is beyond legit. She is fantastic. here is what the actual eggs I got from her looked like.

The darkest egg in front hatched me out my best roo. The one with the light speckles did not hatch. There were two boys and three girls. Two of the girls lay lighter eggs like the one on the left. One of them lays spectacular dark reddish brown eggs. That bird alone I feel was worth my $96 I paid for the eggs.

What do your adult hen offspring look like? I'm not all that concerned if her birds aren't "classic" black copper, but the variation is interesting!

I'm thinking those hens in the pic look kinda like Wellie colors. And Wellies are one of the variations of bbr/partridge, right? So I'm wondering how that would apply to those girls....

How do you tell the difference between wheaten and copper black roos? Someone on here is going to give me some wheaten marans eggs some time in the future and I would like to know, in case of worst case scenario. I plan on banding just to be sure, but still... what way can you tell at a glance, or at a distance, wheaten from CBM? Any tips helpful. I bet a lot of people would like to know too... save us all some grief.

google both colors. you will find pics of the roos. they look very different to me.

The reddish areas on wheaten roos are more gold, and lighter.

There *is* one pic of a "black copper" roo on that page that looks a lot like the one in the ebay auction, btw.
