Hi! I have 6 RiR hens, and was wondering if anyone has some cheap easy to make toy ideas for me? All I have is a tree stump, and a large branch for them to perch on, which is probably good for them, but it looks at little boring, and I want to give them something to do while I'm gone during the day. Right now it's fall, and I raked up a nice pile of leaves for them to dig in, but that's pretty much it for homemade ideas for me, since we don't have a lot to work with.

Hang a head of cabbage or lettuce from a string for them to pick at.

Depending on where you live the branch for a roost may not be big enough for winter.
They need something wide like a 2X4 to be able to cover their toes with their feathers in freezing weather.

A pile of leaves is a great toy. Whole pumpkins and squash are also fun toys, and you could cut a piece of sod to put in the run every few days for them to pick through. In the fall and spring I add a flake or two of oat straw (wheat would also work) for them to scratch around in , and to help with the mud.
