Just wondering if anyone makes their own feed for their layers? Or if anyone has a recipe? My girls free range, but they do also get a layer crumble. Just wondering if it'd be healthier/cheaper to make my own.

How do you assemble those ingredients? I can't imagine doing so, unless I was preparing a couple hundred pounds of feed. Is that what you do?
Thanks.

That's my thought too - I would love love love to feed whole grains to my girls, but I don't want to buy 50 lbs of allll those ingredients at one time! Maybe get with your local group and see if they're up for it?

We ordered the grains and stuff from www.azurestandard.com they can send smaller quantities but we just got the fifty-pound sacks and mixed a little at a time. Whole grains can keep for a long time if kept in metal garbage cans!
Here is how we do it (sort of) "okay, one part is going to be four cups this time. Don't forget and add too much!" We pour the correct ingredient amounts into a big plastic storage bin and stir them with the same measuring cup we use for measuring amounts. The bin is perfectly fine for storing feed in. Easy!
