Home-made Incubator Problems?

Before now, I never knew that water on the eggs hurt them... that must have been what did it O.O Wow wow wow- okay. I am in the process of building a new incubator out of a heat lamp and styrofoam cooler and water reservoirs and towels on the bottom. I will position the eggs as close or near the heat until it is the right temperature. How should I position the heat lamp -above, or to the side?

You should be able to pick up an old water heater thermostat or similar from you local junkyard/recycling depot for next to nothing.

Dont put them right by the light, thats where the temp will be the highest. to the side would be more out of the way but you really need some kind of small pc fan to move the heat off the bulb and around the incubator.

New at lowes they are only like 6 bucks

there are mods that can be done to a hot water heater thermostat, found on utube, that will make them more sensitive.

No true mods that I have seen, positioning may help but by their nature they aren't very responsive.

Okay! I never realized the fan was that important with temperature control. If I have time today, I'll go buy one, along with a hygrometer. Thanks for the ideas!
