Homemade incubator at 106.9 overnight!

A temperature of 104°F is sufficient to kill an embryo, if it was at that temp for 2 hours. It takes awhile for the internal temp of the egg to reach the air temp of the incubator.

Six hours at 106.9°F has most definitely killed all the embryos in any of the fertile eggs. Sorry that this has happened.

Are you using an independent, calibrated thermometer and hygrometer?

Thats what i thought/feared.I feel so bad for the poor things since they were so close to hatching. :( Ill just start over (i really want to have some grocery store chicks!!).

I think the float method is somewhat stressful to the chicks if they are alive but it is probably unlikely that they are. I think ill try it just in case.

I wouldn't reccomend the method for any eggs that are viable.
Float testing will wash the protective 'bloom' off the egg shell. That will allow moisture to enter the egg, along with bacteria as well. It is also a very unreliable method.
