homemade incubator, having troubles managing heat

Wow thanks for the advice... I'm definitely going to grab another dimmer since i told the hubs ("the green is the ground hunny, i'm reading it right now"), which proceeding into, "no i think it goes like this" wait for it.... wait for it.... BOOM! "Yeah hunny, let's turn the house into an incubator."

LOL, so i'm going to grab another, as well as hook my CPU fan up. It's a 4-pin so this will definitely be interesting. It's an Everflow CPU fan with yellow, green, blue, and black wires and almost 4 inches. Think I only need one?

As for the thermometer, this is the one i have (indeed it is acu-rite): http://www.acurite.com/weather/thermometers/thermometer-with-wired-probe.html

The springfield thermometer you mentioned, is it the suction cup one? does it read humidity? Also, while i have you and all this amazing advice - the fan that I have requires 12v DC power, should I stick with making a series circuit of the two 6volts?

Sweets - going to try to do it today! =) Have the 25watt light ready to hook up to the dimmer.

Thanks so much again for all you guys' advice!!

YAY!! Success on wiring my dimmer (and not blowing up this time) to the 25watt. and success wiring my (2) 6 volt batteries in a series circuit to run my CPU fan. My only question is now, do I leave the fan running constantly during incubation?

You need to find an old 12 volt cell phone charger. Here is a link to wiring the fan to the cell phone adapter. As for what the yellow, green, blue, and black wires go to, You will have to experiment.

Btw, not all phone chargers have a black wire, and a black wire with a white stripe.

You just have to experiment.

Hmmm, I think I would probably have better luck finding one online I assume? So far I have it set up the black wire is ground, and the yellow wire is 12volt, so I have it running off the series circuited 6volts (=12v). So far it's running pretty good. However, looks like the way you describe is most definitely more reliable. I will attach a photo of the setup soon. I have the light dimmer quite low and a water dish under my hardwire cloth for humidity. At the moment my brain is now fried, and it's time for me to hit the hay ;) I'll post it in the morning and/or PM ya. Can't thank ya enough for the help!
