Homemade incubator

Has anyone ever used a reptile tank for hatching? Or a reptile heating pad on the bottom for warmth with a moist substrate for humidity, possibly with wire over it so the eggs don't sit directly on it? Thanks

People have used just about anything that can maintain the correct temperature consistently enough for eggs to develop. I would forgo the moist substrate though.

I was thinking a moist substrate in the bottom would help with humidity? The eggs would sit up on wire though so they don't touch it. Is the sponge in a water bowl a better idea for humidity?

It is good to be able to adjust humidity as needed. I generally incubate without adding water. The eggs release moisture and usually that is more than enough. It depends on your climate, but I think it is good start off dry and see if you need to ad a bowl of water.

When you read about incubating humidity is stressed, but from my experience, lots of people use humidity that is too high, especially when they start out.
