I have to move somewhere where my roosters will need to be quieter. Since I have twelve I can't afford to buy the real deal no crow collar for all of them. I bought some double sided velcro at Home Depot. 1 1/2 inch wide. This was too wide for the bantams, so I cut it in half lengthwise for them. Is that too narrow? I've experimented with my two bantam Cochins, and they're as loud as ever. I tightened one of them this morning, but he hasn't tried to crow yet.
I understand the point is to prevent them from inflating the air sac needed to emit a loud crow, but I don't know enough about rooster anatomy to to visualize where this sac is. I placed the collar as low on the neck as I could.
Any advice appreciated. I don't want to slaughter these birds, and I hesitate to rehome them since I'm battling scaly leg mites at the moment, and I'm not confident yet that they're "clean."
