(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
3 years into my chicken journey. Laying hens seemed like a natural next step from gardening.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
13 chickens, 3 turkeys
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I’d rather take care of my chickens than work my corporate job.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Briarhopper Ranch is a small homestead in Black Forest, Colorado at 7,600′ above sea level. Mike and Sarah are a married duo who take care of homeless Akitas and German Shepherds while watching a menagerie of laying hens and broad breasted turkeys, plus tending a garden and greenhouse. We spend as much time as possible exploring God’s creation (hiking, climbing, kayaking, backpacking, etc).
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Found BYC while trying to educate myself about chooks and get some questions answered. Lurked for a while, decided now is the time to join!
