Well, I've lost my marbles! At least that's what some of my friends and family think. At 30 I've decided to pursue some of my dreams and goals more aggressively. That includes being more self sufficient! I've ditched the microwave and started clearing space in our microscopic back yard for a chicken coop. I've been dreaming of chickens for years. We had a mammoth sized flock on the farm I grew up on and have longed for fresh eggs since. I even called my city hall to ask about chickens being legal in my city limits over a year ago but I never did it. Suddenly I felt like the time was now! I called on my roller derby team mates and we're having an old fashioned coop raising. I work at a feed store, so getting a hold of great chicks, feed and supplies is no problem. I'm so excited to be one step closer to my homesteading dream and to be dragging my husband with me! My daughter will be overjoyed to watch the chicks grow into healthy birds and see how they lay delicious eggs.
