Hey everyone! I'm glad to finally have an account after coming here almost daily for answers and ideas the last couple of years.

I grew up around farms when I was younger but traded farm life for high tech city life to build my career. I finally saved enough money to buy a home out in the country with a lot of land but found that sitting 3 hours in a vehicle commuting to/from work every day was draining and didn't leave a lot of energy for the things I was personally interested in. Then COVID hit! I found myself with 3 hours of my life back every day and am lucky enough to have a supporting wife and job that allows me to work exclusively from home now. Since early 2020, I have built my own "Carolina coop" where we house anywhere between 8-20 chickens (depending on the local bobcat population) and bought another coop where we house approximately 30 guinea fowl. We also currently manage 8 bee hives and raise 5 Icelandic sheep and growing! We started off with silver laced and golden laced Wyandottes that we got as day old chicks from an online, large scale hatchery. We more recently got into Arcaunas, Ameraucanas (including a couple of Erminettes!), and French Black Copper Marans that we got from family in Missouri. We'll know the results of our first ever hatching attempt this weekend!

I'm looking forward to continuing to learn from this community and contribute when I can. My wife and I also started sharing our homesteading adventures on our website allenandemily.com and Instagram account.

Thank you for this great community!
