Hello there!

I am not technically new to BYCs. I’ve been using the forums for research for many years now, but I finally had a question worth posting - so here I am.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I am not new to chickens. My grandparents had a small farm while I was growing up and I used to help with the animals during the summer. My husband and I got our own hens starting in Spring 2015.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I know how many by breed, but I don’t want to total it up.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Have had:
Red and Black Sexlink
Buff Orphinton

Currently have:
RIR
Dominique
Delaware
Easter Egger
Buff Minorca
Cuckoo Maran
Speckled Sussex
Welsummer
Lavender Orphington
Barred Rock Bantam
Americana Bantam

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I love most everything about raising chickens. Their weird little velociraptor movements, the different personalities, the way they run to me when I come out the back door.

The primary function of our chickens is for eggs. But when the time comes we “rotate” them out. We also raise meat birds.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Gardening, knitting, sewing, refurbishing furniture, canning, homesteading, reading, writing....

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Married, no kids, three dogs, one cat.

I’ve working in the nonprofit industry for 12 years. I also do graphic design, website development, marketing.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

Google! I googled symptoms for egg peritonitis many years ago and stumbled across a thread.
