Yesterday I weighed my backpack.
40 pounds.
I'm not even in high school yet! (One year left...) Ugh. And now I have a slightly lighter load that I need to go do. Blech.

What's your opinion on homework?

I'm HOMESCHOOLED and I get homework from one of my co-ops. I think homework is pointless. Especially DRAWING homework. Really?!

Back specialists have determined that one should not carry over 10% of one's bodyweight on one's back. My daughter weighed 100lbs in high school, so she shouldn't have carried over 10 lbs! Maybe you could find that research on the web and print copies for your teachers!?
Is there any chance of a backpack on wheels being "cool" enough? Maybe you could start the trend?

Good luck, and sorry about your heavy load!

A lot of girls at my school use small suitcases on wheels. Of course, I am in college, but still. That is a *lot* of books. I feel your pain. I have so much homework I can hardly see straight and of course, what am I doing..... posting on BYC instead or doing homework! LOL

*sigh* Well I weigh 93 pounds (I'm tall and skinny for my age), so that means my backpack was about 43% of my weight. Jooooyyyy.
I would use a wheel backpack, but they don't fit in our lockers. It's a no-win situation...

I do not believe there should be homework assigned in elementary school. Reading is fine, but sending home pages and pages of math etc is just not on. ESPECIALLY on weekends.

I have always made it clear to teachers, don't bother sending it home on a friday because it WILL not be done. Weekends are family time, not school time - no exceptions.

Could you wheel it to the back of each classroom?
In gym, could you leave it in the teacher's office?
Just trying to come up with some ways around the locker size problem...
