homimg pigeons

Well this isn't homing releated as any Pigeon can get it [probably any bird]

There are a few things you can do. Here is the most common solution, permitherin spray.

Video explaining the use of permitherin spray

You can also use Seven dust or Diatomaceous Earth. Make sure it is food grade. You would have to get this at either a feed store or a health food store. The stuff at big box stores is not food grade.
I am a big fan of DE and use it all over. Nest bowls, I mix it into all my feed. It will not only keep/kill any bugs that attempt to enter but it will also de worm the birds and prevent them from growing but works to keep them in general heath. That is a whole other thread...

I am not a big fan of chemicals however permitherin would be the quickest killer. For future prevention though put some DE in each nest bowl. This will kill them before or shortly after reaching the baby. [Assuming this is a squab as adults seem not to get them through frequent bathing and preening].

If you use sevin dust or permethrin be sure to treat then treat again in 10-14 days as it will kill the bugs but not the eggs so you will need to retreat after the eggs hatch.

The quickest way to kill lice and mites at the same time is to dip them in Permethrin. Mix it as it says for chickens and add a few drops of dawn dish soap in the water so it will really soak in. Hold the birds in with the wings open, up to the head for about a minute, then quickly dunk the bird straight down and out so that it can get on top of the head as well. Quickly enough so not to drown them.
