We have 2 silkies we hatched out that we are keeping. "Roberto" is a beautiful barred silkie, and "Sasha" is a pretty little white silkie. I am guessing at their genders based on their behaviors more than any kind of physical appearance. I would love to have more silkies, especially girls... I want to use them for their broodiness.
I hatched out two others, a partridge and a buff/partridge, but they are going to another BYCer as soon as I can get my happy self to come down from this mountain and take them to her. I'm trying to get hold of the breeder I got my original eggs from, as I'd like more of the barred silkies (even DH likes those).
One of my good friends, also a chicken person, strongly dislikes the silkies... refers to them as the French Poodles Of The Chicken World and says they aren't real chickens.
I tell you what... they're real chickens when they poop all over the patio.
