Honey, would you mind getting the BCMs? The ones 500 miles away...

That is a funny story. How did you decide on Oscar? I will have to remember the vanilla cookies bit in case Ruth and I ever get a mule.

I thought I would post some pics of the old building we converted to a B C Marans breeding pen. Boaz did a great job. They have electricty, fan, lights and running water as well as inside and outside fenced runs. We are now taking orders for chicks that shold be hatching in two weeks. I'll post a BST thread for them.

For some reason 'Oscar' reminded me of Jack Klugman, from Felix & Oscar. . . . . .

He was a very sweet mule, very loving, but sooooooooooo lazy.

He was broke to work, but, my husband was not as smart as 'Oscar'. They had several disasters before my X finally gave up and sold him. 'Oscar' worked for a 'real' farmer for a long time......

The one disaster that really stands out . . . . .

Our chicken coop, to say the least was very old. Built on a hillside, supported by posts that leveled the floor up. Oscar got tired of working one day, decided to take the log he was pulling and my X to the barn..... Via a short cut that "took out our chicken house when the log became entangled with a support post".

Oscar might have been lazy, but he was extremely strong. When the log became lodged up against the post supporting the chicken house, Oscar just dug in and pulled the post out from under the chicken house. The entire chicken house collapsed and fell down the hill.

Oscar continued to the barn. Fortunately, it was late in the afternoon and the hens were free ranging ! Imagine their shock when evening came and the house was gone !

We sold Oscar and used the money from the sale to build a much better chicken house on fairly level ground.
