Working on my chicken coop. Close to being finished. I have 8 chickens and 4 turkeys in there now! Salvaged what wood I could, and salvaged the roof. I made some plans in AutoCAD and plan to post the finished plans and photos in the coops section when finished.

That's gonna be too small, especially with those turkeys. I assume your birds are still young? It's a nice looking coop otherwise. Love the color.

Do you plan to separate out those turkeys? I've had turkeys kill and harass chickens, and it's never a good idea to raise them together.

Welcome to BYC!

Sorry in advance for the harsh critique but...
How big is it? 4x4? 6x6?
Agrees with the other OHLD, probably too small for birds listed.

Pretty sturdy build.
Probably need some drip edge under that front roof panel edge.
Too bad you didn't leave soffits open for ventilation.

Looking forward to seeing the drawings, old drafter here.

It is 6 x 6. I thought about leaving soffits open but put a window in the door and on the adjacent side. This is my first time owning chickens/turkeys so I am experiencing a bit of a learning curve. If/when the turkeys begin getting aggressive I will separate them.

Yes, chickeneering has a huge learning curve like getting a sip of water out of a fire hose. I spent 6 months reading here daily, and tweaking cadd drawings, before cutting wood for coop.

Soffits are perfect for winter ventilation, when windows being open can be an issue with wind and snow blowing.
You could still get inside and drill a bunch of 2" holes in that blocking, then cover outside with HC.

Drilling some holes wouldn't be a bad idea. Never thought about winter ventilation too much. I thought you would want to trap as much heat as possible in.
The concern is moisture more than cold. In Northern IN there's a chance the snowpack on the roof will insulate well enough anyway. Nicely built though.

The space will be a bit tight with the turkeys soon enough but if you have a big enough run and allow them unfettered access to the run so they only get in the coop to sleep, you can cheat the measurements people spout as gospel here.

It's SO good to see Hoosiers on here! I'm originally form Elkhart (near South Bend), but just moved to SD 2 years ago! I'm also new to chicken keeping, but I do agree that the coop sees pretty small for what you listed...but I have no doubts you'll be able to figure out how to make it fit for you! :welcome

Wow, looks like a professional job, wish I had your carpenter skills... Yeah, you'll eventually need to separate out the turkeys (or eat them), but that will leave plenty of room for your chickens... As to ventilation, very important as others have noted, but easy to add to wood construction... But study up before you go adding random holes everywhere (you can even add a solar fan if you want to get fancy) and remember you will need to be able to increase it for summer heat and decrease it for winter... Drop downs work as will sliders and even strategically placed drilled holes. Some people use those globe like finned things on the roof.
