Hopeful Hatch Grow-along

Not morbid at all, and I love the sweet picture you took of Hunni. It is so sad that she didn’t hatch but it is very good to know that nothing you did could have prevented this accident. Hoping that you have at least 3 girls in your batch so that you can keep as many of them as possible 🙏🙏🙏

What a sweet memorial for little Hunni. I hope you can find some comfort in knowing there was nothing you could have done to prevent her passing, but also in knowing that it wasn't caused by anything you did or didn't do.

I'm excited to watch your 6 babies grow though! And I'm excited to see how they feather out!

Okay, kind of funny, kind of serendipitous? I am getting ready to go to another couples to play board games, and I decided I was going to wear the chicken socks my coworker got for me a little while ago. How fitting is it that the two chickens that are part of the design are Silver Laced Wyandotte and Buff Orpington? 4 out of my 6 chicks ended up being that cross. Too funny! Now I REALLY love these socks! Lol.

I have about a gazillion pictures of the little guys on my phone, but here are a couple from today. We figured out how to scratch and so they’ve been entertaining themselves for hours pecking and scratching in the brooder. We took a blurry selfie of Winchester. I can differentiate between the three boys (I think they are boys) by the spots on their head. He seems very confident and brave, quick to investigate. I hope that means he will make a good rooster someday! I can also start to see some black markings on the wings of the boys. I’m eager to see how they will feather out!

Beautiful babies (and socks LoL)!
:frow hi Winchester! Such a cutie! I hope you grow up to be an excellent roo! 🐓

Here everyone is investigating the mysterious hand that gives them food and water lol. And I promise I don’t have favorites, Winchester is just the most outgoing of the boys so far and seems to be growing a bit faster. I wanted to snap a picture of the black markings on his little wing feathers, he also is getting a little bit of black on the tail feathers. I wonder if the other boys will have similar markings soon.

I know he will change so much before he reaches maturity it is just interesting to see! He seems a little bigger than the others as well.

Gonna be calling him Major Winchester before long! 😉
They're so cute! 🥰

We decided it’s probably a good idea to handle the suspected cockerels often and frequently so that when it comes time to rehome a couple of them, hopefully they are well-mannered and easy to handle if ever necessary for moving purposes or health reasons. Plus who needs an excuse to snuggle baby chicks?! Winchester is in the front! They’re getting little tail feathers! 😍

These guys are so sweet. I cropped out my crossed eyes but I’m not the star of the photo anyway! How cute are they. And I got a good picture of their sister who roosted on my arm like that for a while, she was content to just sit with me. We’ve nicknamed her “Maybelline/Mabel” because of her eyeliner. My co-worker who watched her hatch with me called her that when she emerged and it just kind of stuck with me lol. I hope no one takes offense to us calling them something a little different. All the names you guys chose were awesome too! I hope that she keeps some of the black when she feathers out. I think there is potential for her to look mostly like a dark buff Orpington which would be beautiful, but it would be kinda cool if there was a little bit of lacing or black markings that came through!
