Hopeful new chicken owner

Thank you for the input. My only concern is my back garden is only about 16 or 17 meters long by about 11 meters wide so quite like the idea of having the run go under the coop. I'll have a look on here and see coop ideas and how to best maximise my space options
There's no reason you couldn't have your coop elavated, even if it's tall enough for you to stand in. If I ever build one big enough to stand in, I'd still have it elavated because my ladies love taking dust baths under the coop.

Sorry one more question. I have an area of slabs(concrete) I was going to use. Is it best to have a soil floor in the run? I was going to keep the slabs downs and put in 2 or 3 inches of top soil onto the slabbed area. Is that a good idea or best to just remove the slabs or not? I intend to allow the chickens to free range in the garden as often as possible and keep the run for really bad weather days or times there is no one in the house to keep an eye on them.

I'd be interested to see what other members say, but I have always used a solid floor and prefer it. I think it makes it easier to do a deep cleaning of the coop in the event of an illness in the flock.

Welcome to BYC. There are tons of coop articles to check out. Build bigger than you think you need, but where you're located should be a factor in the design you choose. Consider a walk in coop, it's easy when you need to do maintenance. Enjoy!

Thanks for the advice, seems to be the thoughts of many on here so think I'll go down that route.
