Hopefully one and only Coop

Hello all, I have been reading up on chickens for about a year or two. I have decided to dive in and build my "One and only coop" I have use of 85ftx150ft. That's for my chickens and for my rabbits. My reason for this post is to ask if I build my coop and run equaling out to 40x40 will that be enough space for separate breeding programs? ie: lemon orpingtons (no more than 8) I want to try breeding my lemon cockerel to a white or a Plymouth rock hen. Any ideas?:/

That's a complicated question....depends on how many hens, roosters, brooders you plan on needing and how you plan on breeding/separating them.

Sounds like you're not quite done researching.

I just put two coops side by side with wire between - so you could use a HW divider .... I only separated my breeding birds 3 weeks before I wanted pure eggs ( I do NOT show - so this is only for myself) and I wanted the see through divider as I was going to integrate the flock again after - because I like to do things quick and easy - one food and water run ....

Anyway - the breeders don't need a ton of room for just a month or two .... for this type of use. If you wanted all year round breeding pens you might have to give them more to make them happy.

I always like a second little something - for breeding, sick or new birds to always be away from the main flock.

Will do. Looking ideas now. I have an idea what I want I just don't know if it is needed.

I want a pen(run) for my lemon orp's.
A pen run for my blue orp's.
White orp's and Plymouth rocks.
I guess(after reading on here) four rooster pens(boxes).
and an area for "the flock". That's why I wonder if I have enough space. :-(

Since you want them separated, you may want a set up like a dog kennel Runs side by side... door into the same building so you can walk in one spot to feed and water - but the separation continues inside too .... that can be their "coop" all separate, but alongside each other.
