Living in Oklahoma City with a child in 4-H the only animal my daughter can legally keep at home to show is rabbits, but she fell in love with poultry. Chickens, ducks, geese and turkey. This makes it very difficult as a parent. I support her 100%, so we are lucky enough to have friends outside of town who board her birds. We split the care of the birds with other kids in her 4-H Poultry group, but it would be so much easier if we could have the birds at home.
To this end, my daughter has been invited by our city councilman to speak before the city council on September 15. If there are any other parents or poultry enthusiasts who would like to be able to keep their poultry in Oklahoma City please join us that morning at City Hall.
My daughter is hoping that if the council sees the educational and scholarship opportunities that poultry can offer, we might be able to change their minds. She also hopes to show the council ways that poultry can be regulated with the city putting out fewer resources than they now have to fine people who are defiantly keeping their birds in the city now.
Please come out on September 15, 2015 to show your support for poultry in Oklahoma City and for the kids who could benefit from being allowed to have poultry in Oklahoma City.
