Okay that’s good, but I would say if you can you should get it to a vet to stitch it up, you might need to isolate it so the others don’t hurt it more put ointment on it about 1-2 times a day and try to bandage it up so it’ll heal if you can’t get to a vet

Stitches can trap in bacteria. One reason it's not recommended for chickens.

Bandages will stick to the wound, & impair healing. It needs to air heal.

I wouldn’t worry about stitches. But I would be trying to figure out what he got that from. Looks like a really good cut of some sort. But like others have said Neosporin will work just fine. But I would separate the chicken. Others will peck at the wound and it could go very far south for you. I hope it heals quickly and you are able to find what caused this.

So any idea as to what caused it? He doesn't think it's the other chickens, but they are the obivious suspects and the wound is right where I would expect it to be if she were getting pecked, but I'm not a wound ID expert.

I JUST noticed my NN has an injury. Hubs says "Neosporin". I say there is some kind of chicken antibiotic at TSP that I think I should use.

Yaw'll say what. Hubs does not think it is from being pecked. I dunno.

This is the best I can do this sec . Thankfully, he is walking around seemingly fine. Bless his heart.

Looks like a wound from being grabbed by another bird to me. Only time I've had birds ripped open like that was from being grabbed/mounted.

Flush with soap/water, saline, betadine or chlorhexidine. Pat dryish, then apply triple antibiotic ointment. It should heal fine if the others don't peck at it. You may need to house him separately until it heals over.

Look through your coop for any exposed wire especially near holes that he could have tried to stick his head through. One of my hens got her head stuck in a seam in the wire and I had to cut a dangling piece of skin off her earlobe after it happened.

BluKote is for scratches and minor wounds. When the wound has healed more, that may be used to prevent packing. But now, the wound is open and wide, and I would follow instructions for cleaning the wound and applying ointment, plus keeping him separated. A wire dog crate with food/water where he could still be with his flock might be good for that.
