yes,, it positively is legal to shoot anything killing your livestock in mississippi, as i've lived here for over 60 years. however,, if you know who the dog belonged to, i would advise talking to the owner, and give them fair warning. most rural folks don't want their dogs killing neighbor's chickens, anymore than you do.
