Horse Help

I love riding in parades...just can't find ones close that allow horses so we haven't ridden in them very often.

If you're already trailriding your horse, you've exposed it to lots of different things to know to trust you. Riding in a parade isn't hugely different than a trailride. Choose who you ride with carefully. If they're riding calm horses, yours will be more comfortable.

In the event your horse becomes overwhelmed, get off and walk with your horse. Stay safe. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing. Even if you walk the parade with your horse...it will still be a good learning experience for you both.

Take lots of photos!

BobwhiteQuailLover, the former Toby10? Yep, sure enough. Great looking little horse!

Hopefully you have already started working with him daily on the sights, sounds and noises of a parade, it's time consuming but sooooo worth it. We have a tiny town, too, but last year a young horse spooked and went a little nuts before they got him calmed down. Only the rider and 2 other people in the crowd were hurt, but between the town, the parade managers and the injured the lawsuits are flying! Sad thing, they're saying no horses this year.

Since you are a novice and Toby is too, I'd suggest you stay next to a more experienced rider and calm, older horse he knows, just in case he does spook. Maybe even on a lead, so you can have one hand free to wave at the crowd!

HopeMissouri has some great advice.

Have fun, get lots of pics and post them here, okay?

lots of great advice! but there's even some stuff that horses come in contact with on a pretty daily basis at boarding/riding stables, and with my horse , it was a great learning experience for she and I
