I halter broke my two sheep, but they were way easier. I need to get a smaller rope with a smaller snap because the one I have weighs down his head too much. He's a mini foal, so much smaller than regular size, so I don't want to risk hurting his neck.

You should be able to find good quality "mini" sized tack on this website: https://minitack.com/product-category/halters-leads-barn I bought a lot of items from them when we had out mini, it was the catalog our mini's "show barn" trainer buys 90% of her stuff from. They should have halters that are narrower webbing, and just 2 plies with smaller hardware. They also have leads with smaller snap, or you could easily make you own lead sturdy enough for a mini foal, or even use a dog leash until his weight is over 200lbs.

Since he is a mini, I would NOT tie him to anything solid until he learns to give to pressure that releases. Mini bones are not very big, and he could easily break something by fighting.

You could use a rope halter instead so it is lighter

It would be really hard to find a good soft rope halter sized for a mini foal. You'd probably have to have one custom made. The typical knot on a rope halter, when done correctly, would be larger than a mini foal's cheek - no room for the knot without hitting the eye and ear.

Im going to make a trip to a store and get rope to make a rope halter for him and one for his mom. I want to get a good sized rope to us for a lead with rope to rope connection. What thickness should the rope be? For halters and rope?

Whatever looks right, think about making pressure point knots if you are the far into training

I have a nylon halter, but I thought a rope one might help him learn to giveto pressure better without having to give so much pressure. I wantd to try and make my own to save a littlemoney. I'd also like to startnselling them.

You can certainly make your own, there are lots of tutorials online... It is just a matter of learning the knots and adjusting their placement to fit his head. You will have to search out a smaller diameter, softer rope, though. I have a variety of rope halters in different stiffness and rope gauge - the stiffer and thicker rope is even hard to adjust/tie for a full size horse, I certainly wouldn't want to deal with in "mini-foal" size.

I would just go to a hardware store or Lowe's/Home Depot/TSC and play around with the rope choices that they sell "by the foot". You might find one that will work for you.... Most of the good rope halter "makers" that I know of buy their rope from specialty vendors, and often buy it by the 100 foot spool...

I know a place that has a big selection of rope by the foot and I can get it really cheap. Just need to make a trip there.

2 month old babies should be getting milk and nibbling little bits of grass/ hay they see their mom's eating. They're not old enough to be getting much other than milk.
