Horse Talk

@I Love Layers she asked if cow horses were good horses, and depending on what her idea of a good horse is, a cow horse may not fit the description! Lol some people don't like that aggressiveness because it can make them hard to handle sometimes.
But definitely agree, a cow horse should be tough, June would make a good cow horse, Indie not so much, he's a big baby.

@KDOGG331 if you like a hard worker then cow horses definitely fit that bill! Even as lazy as June is, if we're doing something exciting she's ready to work her butt off!
And if you like fast paced, go all day, hard working horses, then I think a CVH (California vaquero horse) would one up a cow bred quarter horse, they were sort of like the original cow horse, they're a Spanish breed that were used to go on missions and would have to canter 50 miles in one day very frequently. They're super agile and athletic and VERY smart, but they're also pretty hot. They were originally war horses, but then turned into cowhorses.
There's only 40 something left and there's a big preservation in California that's trying to get the word out and find people to buy and breed them so they can get the breed back on their feet. That's what I want to do eventually.
Here's the stallion that I want to get one of my foals out of one day, he's only two and a half

Sorry about the random breed lecture, I just can't think about cow horses without thinking of them, it's something I'm pretty passionate about

Wow that's awesome! Sounds kinda like my dog. And me. Lol if he likes something or it's fun, he'll gladly work. If he doesn't want to work? Good luck getting him too LOL same here.

And wow those horses sound amazing!

No no, i dont mind breed lectures. Lol they are gorgeous!

(sorry Smoke :p)

Haha, I like giving breed lectures too. Have you heard of Galicenos? They sound similar to vaqueros, minus the war-horse history.

No I haven't but you can bet your buns I'm gonna look them up now!!

Have you heard of the livestock conservancy? That's where I found them.

Well, rediscovered them, anyway. I have this GIANT horse encyclopedia, and every breed of horse that ever existed is in it. It's awesome.

Lol. So, my day was interesting.
It started with some fun loving shenanigans, I went out to catch June and everyone was feeling good because it's 65° out, so Indie kept galloping through the field while I was walking her up to the barn and he kept coming right at us, which was making me a little nervous because he cut it pretty close a couple times, and then eventually it got June excited and she ripped the lead rope out of my hand (I don't think she's ever done that before) and took off through the field.
But I didn't let it make me mad, and I just walked back to the back of the field again and I finally got her up to the barn.
Penned the geldings up.
Then I tacked June up and I was feeling good, my plan was to try loping through the wide open field.
Guess again.
I decided to lunge her beforehand just in case (I haven't done that in forever but thank goodness I did) she started bucking, and not her normal little baby bucks, she was bucking bronco bucking, ripped the rope out of my hands, and took off bucking around the arena, well, I wouldn't really say she was charging AT me, but she definitely didn't care that I was there! So then I took off running, because she was making good time towards me, and I hauled butt so fast over the gate that when I got the top I fell and landed right on my behind. Needless to say, I have some rope burns, blisters, and probably a giant bruise on my butt.
I did manage to at least end on a good note, I rebuilt the round pen and round penned her for a while and then had her stand tied and she was friendly by the end of that.

Gotta love days like tha, eh?

Yeah I tried shooing him off with the lead rope whenever he did it, he'll learn.
And possibly, she better have some excuse for that behavior. She lunged fine for a minute then freaked out. And then when I got her in the round pen she was fine and licking her lips.
I was fuming though, mostly because I hurt my butt lol
