@I Love Layers she asked if cow horses were good horses, and depending on what her idea of a good horse is, a cow horse may not fit the description! Lol some people don't like that aggressiveness because it can make them hard to handle sometimes.
But definitely agree, a cow horse should be tough, June would make a good cow horse, Indie not so much, he's a big baby.
@KDOGG331 if you like a hard worker then cow horses definitely fit that bill! Even as lazy as June is, if we're doing something exciting she's ready to work her butt off!
And if you like fast paced, go all day, hard working horses, then I think a CVH (California vaquero horse) would one up a cow bred quarter horse, they were sort of like the original cow horse, they're a Spanish breed that were used to go on missions and would have to canter 50 miles in one day very frequently. They're super agile and athletic and VERY smart, but they're also pretty hot. They were originally war horses, but then turned into cowhorses.
There's only 40 something left and there's a big preservation in California that's trying to get the word out and find people to buy and breed them so they can get the breed back on their feet. That's what I want to do eventually.
Here's the stallion that I want to get one of my foals out of one day, he's only two and a half
He's stopping like that while playing!
And the mare I'd hope the foal is from
Sorry about the random breed lecture, I just can't think about cow horses without thinking of them, it's something I'm pretty passionate about
