Horse Talk

Someone told me to try taking pictures of the horses from different angles than just straight on... I tried.. I think I failed lol. But check out Reno's little speckly chin, I love it.

Your mare should not be bred until shes fully mature. Raising a youngster is expensive and a lot of work/time. You could easily have 1000s in vet care/feed in a baby before you even ride it. Foals need a lot of training. If you are not expirenced ..it could be a disaster. I have a friend thst had a very study 5 mo. Old stallion that has already broke her jaw and collarbone ( separate incidents)lastly...many cross bred horses in up in auction houses and ultimately rendered for food because someone thought it would be cool to bred thier horse. I have 3..one i raised from a baby..now 18 yrs. Old. Another is 29 (retired). His vet bills exceeded 5k by the time he was 4. Lastly..mares can have trouble..colic..or be unable to deliver a hugh foal! There are funguses in grass that can cause them to abort. Enjoy your beautiful horse...however...i would not cross breed her...horses are a big commitment and many " mistakes" have unfortunate ends.

I know you are trying to be helpful (and it definitely was and you made good points) but if you read even just the most recent parts of thread (cause I know the whole thread is a lot to read and even I haven't read the whole thing), you'll see that her plans have changed a lot since last year and she's had a bunch of ideas etc. And I'm pretty sure she decided not to breed June. She also has a new foal now, Jasmine, and 2 geldings. The geldings I think were gonna be sold but then it fell through plus there's a recent horror story of her sending all 3 except the baby off to be trained for a month and they were starved so she took them all back, even the one that was supposed to stay. Anyway, I think, but might be wrong, that she is happy with the 4 she has now and has decided not to breed or buy any more for a while. So yeah. I am sure you were just trying to be helpful but might want to catch up even just a little bit :)

I didn't see the other posts..i went on to recent posts and i responded to what i read. I used to rehab horses for new homes. The 3 i have now were all rescues to. I think in all the years of rescue...i only put one down. Ive seen some crazy situations w/horses. My friend paid a crazy amount of money for that colt...20k. Came from reining champions. I keep trying to get her to sell or geld it. But ...well...u know how it is!

Yeah, the very first thing I posted is super old! I didn't even know what you were talking about until I read @KDOGG331 repy  I've changed soooo so much since then. I have 4 super awesome horses now, and for the time being I have no plans to sell any of them (if I do it'll be because I can't finish the geldings training myself, but I'm gonna give it my best shot first, I want to keep them all but I don't want them to just sit in the field). I also don't have any serious plans to get any more, unless of course I can talk my grandpa into letting me keep another on his property, in which case I do really want to adopt a mustang. I have no breeding plans as of now either, and my views on breeding have changed a lot. I wouldn't go into it lightly, first and foremost if I bred I'd want enough money set aside to cover any major emergencies. Secondly, I'm not a fan of cross breeding on purpose anymore (unless it's an Azteca because I mean... have you seen them?), if I bred one of my mares it would only be to another registered QH. Also, I have super high standards now, of course I love day dreaming about breeding, but IF I ever bred June, I'd wait until she was closer to 8 or 9, and then I wouldn't even breed her directly, I'd use a recip mare, and on top of that, the only stud I'd use on her is HF Mobster (if you don't know who he is, look up him and Silver Spurs Equine). So that means if I ever breed June, it will easily cost me $10,000 and that's if there's no complications. And I'd absolutely 100% keep the baby for myself, even if it had 8 legs and no ears.
Now Jasmine on the other hand, I do have some plans for her. The rough plan is when she's 2 im going to send her to a reining trainer, the best one I can find in my area (I'll probably have to send her to OK), then I'm going to have her shown for a few years, and sometime between when she's 6-10, IF she does well in reining, and only if she does well, I would like to breed her to a reining stud, probably HF Mobster but there's a few others I like (the other ones are a couple thousand dollars cheaper too lol), and that baby would be a keeper for me too.
So, you gave good advice but it doesn't apply at all now lol. I don't really plan to breed now and even if I did I'd do it totally differently.

Oh, and if I paid 20k for a reining colt I'd probably be hestitant to geld him too :lau I'm sure she wants to wait and see what his potential is.

Side note, it sounds like your friend needs some help training that colt if she wants to keep him and ever get anywhere with him.

And also I'm not against cross bred horses, I just wouldn't do it myself now. One of my geldings is a mustang, appaloosa, welsh cross. He was actually rescued by the person who had him 2 people before me.

This was Reno about a year ago. When his original owner rescued him. She said he was coughing and snotty and full of worms, took 3 different wormers to get rid of them. And he's grown almost 2 hands since then

That makes sense then and maybe I missed something? Also sorry, I didn't mean to come off rude, just that I think she decided not to breed a little while ago so I was surprised by the mention aha but maybe she said something about Jasmine? Idk. but oh wow that's awesome! And oh wow, $20,000!?
