Horse Talk

Now something I haven't been able to figure out, no matter what I'm doing with her, if she sees my grandpa, she completely ignores me and won't do anything but go stand by him. I'll struggle and struggle with her to do what I want but it's like she turns her brain off when she sees him. How can I redirect her attention back to me?

She's at his place, right? One question - who handles the feeding?
Good question. My dad feeds sometimes, so when he comes around, you might as well forget any plans you've got to keep the horse's attention.

Yes she's at his place, but I live out here now too and I do the feeding every day/always have done the feeding everyday. My grandpa rarely ever even goes out and sees the horses. All the animals are like this with him. They see him and it's like no one else exists. I just can't understand why because I do all the feeding, play with them, talk to them etc. but they all love my grandpa more than anything and can't seem to focus when he's around. Animal whisperer I guess.

I haven't been on here in a while...

My main mare Sneaks foundered, so she will most likely not be able to barrel race. So I've decided to take up mounted shooting with her.

Right now I am trying to trade or sell my moms horse to get another 8-11 year old horse that could also do mounted shooting

Sory to hear about Sneaks. Wishing you success with mounted shooting though!

Some pictures from our ride today. I rode her on the way home, since she's still jot strong enough to carry someone up the hill we went up.

I need a tip. So, I want to start working ELi in a rope halter instead of his nylon one. I don't have a rope halter his size and when I bought his regular nylon halter, a normal mini sizd halter didn'twork. It had to be a colt size because his head is rather large.
Anyways, after much research, I still don't know what to do.

Make my own:
Cons:
*Would be afraid of making it wrong
*yacht rope (as recommended) is WAY expensive

Pros:
*I could customize as needed

Buy one:
Cons:
*No store near me that I know of has rope halters mini sized.
*If I order, it might nd up the wrong size (I was loking at sunsethalters)

Pros:
*No messing with making my own
*seems to be cheaper.

ANY TIPS?!

What breed is he and how old?
For my QHs I use a medium.

I made my own rope halters. Rope from the hardware store may not hold the knots quite as firmly at first, but they tighten up and do well enough with time. I even made Blondie one halter from rope that I made from yarn - I had some yarn that had hardly any stretch in it, so I twisted it into rope, and then tied a halter out of the rope. There are several videos on YouTube showing step-by-step instructions on how to tie a rope halter.

He's a mini horse and he's 16.
