Horse Talk

It's not so much that Jade looks like him, because she doesn't, at all, it's just her personality. And the lady who's buying her wants her for a riding horse too, her horse that she rode all the time recently passed away, that's part of the reason she likes Jade. I don't believe she'll be breeding her more than a few times. I think it should work out good for her.
As for the mare I'm getting, she's bred to a stud with no frame, so no worries there, this lady is very big into genetics and is careful as to what she breeds. She's getting rid of her, partly because she does not want an overo mare (this mare just kinda ended up with her on accident) and partly because she really wants to focus on the foundation lines. I am going to start groundwork with the mare once I get her, ill have her whole pregnancy to take it slow and easy and work on groundwork, I hope to be able to get her rideable after she foals. Her personality is a lot like June's so I'm hoping I can just kind of do the same thing with her that I've done with June, and just go from there.
And she's not giving them away for free, if she's getting something in return. An untrained mare and the foals (who will also be untrained, obviously) most likely add up to equal value of Jade, since she's trained so well and can also double as a broodmare and is double registered.
Some people may not think I'm making the right decision, but I really feel that it's the right thing to do, so I'm going with it. I've talked extensively with this lady and I really like her and everything she has to say, and we're both getting what we want out of it. We've also written up a really good contract. It wasn't taken lightly or on a whim either. And I'm excited about it.

And poor sneaks!! I hope everything goes okay, it looks so bad, but hoping it looks worse than it is

Oh and side note, I taught June to back her self out of a trailer on command. I'm really excited about it

I think I have said it before - if you are afraid of a horse, and can't work with it, you are both generally better off letting the horse go to someone who can work with it. But you know what they say, when a deal seems too good to be true, it usually is.

It seems to me that the only "known quantity" here is Jade. This woman knows what she wants, and it sounds like she is getting it - a very well trained animal with the sort of bloodlines that she wants, and an experienced broodmare to boot (didn't you say Jade has had at least one foal?) In return, you are getting a bunch of question marks. Older horses aren't necessarily untrainable, but they are a lot harder; they have all those years of calling their own shots. This is a body with muscles, bones and ligaments that have dealt with the stresses of multiple pregnancies - she may have physical issues that make her unrideable. With this 3-in-1 deal, it sounds like this woman is trying to be fair to you, but it may be years before you know whether this was a good deal or not.

But good for you and June - trailering issues are so common; training one to do it right when you don't have time pressures is really smart.

If she's not trainable, it's fine, she'll have two foals that will be trainable, which is what I'm more interested in. I've seen her past foals and they're all really nice horses. I would hope that she is though, but I can live with it if she's not. Bottom line is, is that I just can't seem to get comfortable with Jade, and that I posted her for sale first and could not get her sold. So I'm actually pretty happy with this plan. The lady also plans on letting me pick a different foal, if something happens to one of them, that way I'm still getting what I'm suppose to, If the mare doesn't get bred back, or loses a foal or anything like that, I could even decide to replace with Jades first foal. Money wise, i don't think I'm getting ripped off. And horse wise, I'm just not ever going to use Jade, so this is good.

And I'm super happy with what I trained June to do! I stand outside the trailer and say "out" and she backs herself right out. Wish I could post video on here

Hey ya'll
I have a senior gelding that I got two years ago that I think may be getting arthritis. When I ride him he acts like he is in pain, but I do not know if he is just trying to make me not ride him.

Day #6
My mom picked up some wrap and antibiotics
Some friends came out, they're hauling our calves in on Wednesday. We showed the wife my horse since she's an RN. She helped me wrap it and put some antibiotic on it, I'm going to give her a shot of penicillin tomorrow
