Horses!!!!!!!!

my name is Brittany & I'm new to horse's, I use to ride my aunts horse's when i was 12 but i'm 18 now & i'm I little rusty if you know what I mean lol anyways my Mom got me a retired racing horse, he was a sulky racer he is a 2 year old bay gelding , just wondering if anyone can give me advice on anything like how I should train him so I can get him use to a saddle so I can ride him..

If he is only two he should not be ridden. I'm assuming, being a sulky horse, that he is a standardbred. You should never start to break a horse until they are three, preferably four. If you start riding him now it will make him swayback as he ages.

It won't necessarily make him swayback... A lot of swaybacks are due to a skeletal issue called lordosis. But, riding at age 2 can be hard on his joints, and cause issues later on. Let him mature a few more years before you put him under saddle, and he'll last you a lot longer. I know "everybody" breaks them by 2, and there are races and competitions specifically for 2 year olds - but they do that for MONEY - NOT for the benefit of the horse.

You are lucky that he is a trotter/pacer because that means he has had good basic brickwork laid to make it easier to transition him to being ridden later. Everything he has learned so far can be carried over, well, except the pacing part if he is a pacer....

I would not ride him at 2 just start ground work! Riding at 2 could hurt is joints.
