Hot chicks!!

Help! No one responded on the chick forum (what's up with that place, just dead?). My babies are either passed out or panting. Its 102° today and the brooder is too hot. I have a fan on the floor but if I put it directly on them they crowd on one side. I put frozen water bottles in there too. It will cool by tonight and throughout the week. Then need to move them somewhere. Had planned on moving them out of the garage and into the rabbit hutch under the tree and sprinkler or misters on but not yet, they're only a week old. Any tips on keeping them cool?

Do you use a lamp? Why not just raise it up more?

If the temperature outside is 102, you really don't need a lamp at all.

I have the opposite problem, it is rainy and cold here but there is a thread with how to keep chickens cool.

Ok I gave them watermelon. Are they too young for any treats? The hens I have no problem keeping cool, I just worry about all these above measures in week old chicks. Like I'm not about to get them wet. The hens free range in the misters.

I agree! They are so young! I hope some others will post with experience in hot climates. I read about ice cubes in the water, have you tried that?
