Living in the Pacific Northwest we have not had to worry about heat. Last year the temps got over 100 when 72 is average. So this year I am ready. First I started to freeze 1-Liter bottles of water, I try to keep at least 6. I drop the frozen bottles in their waterers a couple of times a day. I have a sprinkler set on top of the coop roof and turn it on at the hottest times. I give them cold mint tea too, as well as mint from the garden. Watermelon, cucs are also ready. Good luck all!

Wow..mint tea for the chickens..lol. lucky them. I will take a cup 🍵I gave mine a cut up frozen zucchini yesterday. My refrigerator freezes anything on the top shelf..and I bulk shop..lucky them😁

You can also put 1 liter of water in a 2 liter soda bottle and freeze that. The birds can sit next to them to help cool off. I gather it's a Chinook wind so it's a dry heat, very fortunate!

I have mint growing along the run. I also have lemon balm. It's also a good bug and rodent repellent.

Been well over 100 here since June. Normally 90s with 70% humidity. Its been 105 with 26% humidity for weeks now. Lots of shade, lots of watermelon rinds, lots of water in several buckets. We will give electrolytes for a few days in a row in one bucket and then take a few days off. I have not had to empty the dehumidifier once since May. Normal years I empty it once daily starting in May-September. Supposed to get rain starting tomorrow, maybe a drought buster. I hope so, the sheep look like they are ready to end it all. We have got 1/16 of an inch of rain in the last two months. All our fruit tress dropped their fruit. Apples, pears, apricots, all deer food.

I have a peppermint plant in a planter..it's all "viney" and perky. Peppermint clippings take root so quick. I've got another plant from a piece of a plant. I find that neat 😁

Mint around here reseeds itself all over the place. When they pop up I dig em out and replant them along the run, or give them to neighbors.

I too have been putting ice in the waterer when the chickens appear hot. Usually above 90. This has really helped them. Egg production increased and they are genuinely less stressed. Also they have ample shade.
