Hot weather!

I freeze water bottles and orange juice sized bottles. I keep them in the chest freezer and then when it gets really hot I lay them on the ground for the chickens too snuggle with. My LO and RSL love it. I am also able to put a frozen bottle in the waterer to keep the water cooler longer. I then scrub the bottles and put them back in the freezer each night. It seems to work. They are still hot, but they have the ability to be cooler with the bottles. I also hung a small box fan in the ceiling of the coop blowing the hot air out. That helps keep the temp lower.

Even as hot as it normally gets here, I haven't seen my girls get to hot. I've seen them panting, but not horribly. They are shaded almost all day, fresh water every morning, and they can go in their coop when ever they want. Here in Oklahoma, there is always a breeze so that isn't a problem. I might do the dish pan with water, seems like a good idea.

I use a small bucket filled with fresh cool water and put a 20oz.bottle of frozen water in it. It will keep the water cold or cool for a couple hrs. Freeze several bottles and just swap'em out. Mine will really drink it up.

Our girls are panting a lot with the weather recently. We have drakes as well, so they have a kiddie pool but the boys get a bit territorial when the hens try to drink out of it.

We've been getting a few packets of electrolyte powder that are supposed to help keep them cool. Just drop the packet in a gallon of water.
Our girls are free range so we keep waterers all over the property but the main waterer stays under the coop.
It seems to do pretty well. They're not panting as much as before.
But I can't say for sure how well it works.
