I'm moving to New York and bringing my flock with me, since we're headed into winter they'll be set up in a temporary coop inside a metal barn until I can figure out permanent digs in the spring. The temp coop will be predator-proof to things like foxes & fishers, but I'm worried about black bears. My husband thinks we can just hot wire the temp coop, I'd like to hot wire the whole outside of the barn. I grew up with black bears tearing into sheds to get at garbage, so I don't want to underestimate them when it comes to my birds. The barn is not open-air and can be totally closed. Thanks in advance :)

Where are you moving to in NY? Are you certain there are black bears in your new area? Coyotes are more prevalent.

Moving to Schuyler county, so the chances are probably not as high as other parts of the state, but don't want to take any chances. Our realtor said she mainly sees fishers & foxes trying to get at her birds.
